La parroquia se encuentra al sur de la cabecera cantonal, Zumba, a unos 22 km. La zona fue habitada por diferentes culturas, incluyendo la Valdivia, Machalilla y Chorrera, antes de la llegada de los espa\u00f1oles. Pucapamba fue establecida como parroquia eclesi\u00e1stica en 1775, y en 1808 se convirti\u00f3 en una de las primeras parroquias rurales del cant\u00f3n Cuenca.
